The Gordon Kato Summer Fellowship is awarded to students pursuing graduate degrees in social psychology who best exemplify Gordon Kato's intellectual curiosity, passion for the teaching and research of psychology, and appreciation of living life to its fullest potential.

  • Heidi Williams wins the Indiana University McFall Summer Research Fellowship!

  • Katie Kroeper and Dr. Mary Murphy have a book chapter published titled "Supporting college and career readiness through social psychological interventions" in Preparing students for college and careers: Theory, measurement, and educational practice.

Summer 2016

  • Dr. Murphy, Dr. Stephanie Fryberg, and Dr. Megan Bang launch the Summer Teacher Training Institute in Seattle, funded by the Raikes Foundation. This week-long institute helps K-6 teachers create equitable learning environments in their classrooms to support students' motivation and achievement. 

  • Elise Ozier wins the Indiana University Heller Summer Research Fellowship! 

  • MICL alumnus, Dr. Evelyn Carter accepts a position as a Research Scientist in the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at UCLA!

Spring 2016

  • Heidi Williams wins the 2016 Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) conference best poster award! Way to go, Heidi!

 

  • Dr. Murphy, Dr. Ashlyn Nelson, & Professor Victor Quintanilla are awarded a grant from the Character Lab to support their project, Rethinking School Discipline: A Randomized Social Psychological Intervention to Decrease Adverse Disciplinary Outcomes.

  • Dr. Murphy is awarded a $2.2M NSF CAREER award for her project, Creating Equitable STEM Environments: A Multi-Method Contextual Approach to Mitigating Social Identity Threat Among Women in STEM. The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award is the National Science Foundation's most prestigious award in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.

  • Evelyn Carter & Dr. Murphy's (co-authored with Destiny Peery and Jennifer Richeson) paper: Does cognitive depletion shape bias detection for minority group members? is published in Social Cognition.

  • The Spencer Foundation funds a project with UIC (Dr. Murphy, Co-PI) entitled, Non-cognitive factors predicting college student success.

  • The Russell Sage Foundation funds a project with Dr. Murphy, Dr. Sabrina Zirkel, and Dr. Julie Garcia entitled, Identity threats in higher education: Implications for college outcomes of under-represented students of color.

  • Dr. Murphy wins a 2015 IU Outstanding Junior Faculty Award!

  • Postdoc, Katie Boucher, and Dr. Murphy's intervention proposal selected and implemented by Stanford University’s Project for Education Research that Scales (PERTS)’s Mindset Challenge!

  • Dr. Murphy, Professor Victor Quintanilla, Dr. Jim Sherman, and Dr. Amy Applegate receive an Indiana University Collaborative Research Grant (IUCRG) for their project entitled, An experimental investigation of the contexts and mechanisms shaping the procedural preferences of judges, attorneys, and the public when triaging family law disputes.

Spring 2011

  • Kathy Emerson is awarded Honorable Mention by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for her grant proposal entitled, “How Organizational Lay Theories of Intelligence Affect Underrepresented Groups.” The NSF bestows this honor upon applicants who have submitted outstanding proposals and recognizes them for making a “significant academic achievement” on a national scale.

  • Kathy Emerson is awarded the Christopher B. Keys Award for Early Outstanding Research Achievement.  This award is made annually to a 1st through 3rd year graduate student  whose work best exemplifies a tradition of innovative, adventuresome research.

  • Undergraduate researcher, Laurel Wright is elected to Phi Beta Kappa!  Congrats, Laurel!

  • Kathy Emerson earns her Masters from the University of Illinois at Chicago!  Way to go, Kathy!!!
